Brightspace update

Brightspace Champions from every Academic Partner will attend the first of a series of professional development courses later this month. After completion, Champions will be able to support colleagues at their Academic Partner in making the transition from Blackboard to Brightspace. Work continues on developing the bespoke in-house professional development programme and related support for all staff and students who will be using Brightspace from August 2019. The programme will include the requirements for transitioning existing materials from Blackboard.  The programme will be launched in January 2019.

Brightspace VLE implementation

The technical implementation of Brightspace is progressing. Initial authentication with university systems is complete and users and training material will be added soon. The university Communications webteam have approved the new URL (this is not live yet). The next stage is creating the academic structure based on information in SITS.

Partnership Council have approved a transition and migration pathway. To ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible we will be asking staff to undertake some housekeeping in Blackboard. Units and modules will then be migrated into “sandbox” spaces in Brightspace. More information about the transition schedule will be posted soon.

Brightspace by D2L is the new Learning Environment

The university is excited and pleased to announce that Brightspace by D2L will be the new learning environment. Founded in 1999, D2L is a global company with the goal of ensuring that everyone has access to the best possible learning opportunities. Brightspace by D2L, which aligns with the values in our Learning Teaching and Enhancement Strategy, will help us give students the best possible learning experience.

We will start teaching in Brightspace from August 2019 and the development of a robust implementation programme is underway. This includes a comprehensive professional development and training plan to ensure that everyone is supported to get the best out of Brightspace. A team of experienced people from across the University is being assembled and multiple opportunities to take part will be provided including workshops, drop in sessions, online learning, webinars and much more. The move to Brightspace will be a fully collaborative initiative, with Academic Partners supporting staff to make this important transition.
